You see one of SG's favorite authors who we have on my iPod reading most of his books is Robert Munsch. So needless to say I have become some what desensitized by his tear jerker book Love You Forever. As I saw the title of this new book, Let Me Hold You Longer, I figured this one might be along the same lines.
WOW! I could barely read the first page without busting into tears. This book after, finally, making it through touched my life in more ways than probably Karen Kingsbury had probably originated for it to touch the lives of moms and dads. Here are just a couple of exerts that were special to me:
"Long ago you came to me, a miracle of firsts:
First smiles and teeth and baby steps,
a sunbeam on the burst.
But one day you will move away and leave to me your past,
And I will be left thinking of
a lifetime of your lasts..."
(Never really thought of it in this manner before)

"The last time last time that I comb your hair
or stop a pillow fight.
The last time that I pray with you
and tuck you in at night.
The last time when we cuddle
with a book, just me and you.
The last time you jump in our bed
and sleep between us two."
(This describes our children to a "T".)
"One last hug, one last good-bye,
one quick and hurried kiss.
One last time to understand
just how much you'll be missed.
I'll watch you leave and think how fast
our time together passed."

At this special time of year, let us hug our little ones and loved ones a little tighter. The next time you want to get a special book may I recommend Let Me Hold You Longer by Karen Kingsbury. (And a box of Kleenex to go with it!)

This book ALWAYS brings tears to my eyes... Such a sweet reminder of how short of time is with our children. And, even during those rough days as a mom, I must remember that one day I'll miss this...from the cries and tantrums to the accidents that are bound to occur at the worst most possible moment. We are so blessed to be parents!! :-) Merry Christmas!
