Casting...

For those who might have missed the news about 4 weeks ago via my Facebook page, our son Big E, took a tumble down my parents stair case and ended up with what I call a "coke can fracture". We started off with this cast:

Needless to say it never slowed him down, hence the video below:
This week we finally got the nasty thing removed. Actually, the word nasty does not even begin to describe the cast. I can tell you that play sand fell out of it when it was cut off and there is NO TELLING what all was embedded in the hard casting itself since it was drug through just about every meal he ate.

But I couldn't help connect the removal of the old cast, the few minutes of "freedom" that he had without a cast, and then the placement of our new Red Roll Tide beauty, to something spiritual. The old cast represented my life, and so  many others, that we carry around a huge band aid covering up all the brokenness in our lives. We try so hard to remove it (at least Big E did) but no matter what that band aid is always there protecting our wrong doings.

Then sometimes our band aid does let us go and gives us choices (ours were simple...playing in water)
and generally as soon as the band aid witnesses us making bad choices, HE sends someone our way to play that protective layer around our sinful nature and draw us closer back to him. Allowing us to grow anew in Him once again.

While Big E's band aid is just protecting his wrist from further damage and allowing new bone to form, our spiritual band-aid (Jesus) puts us in a full body cast forgiving us of all our sin even with free will. However, I believe He will always send someone in our path to redirect and guide us back into our Body Cast  once again.

How's your casting?
